The Georgia Department of Transportation annually removes litter from 1,245 interstate miles and 18,000 state route miles.

adopt a spotAdopt a Spot is a litter prevention and maintenance program coordinated by the Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Commission. By forming partnerships with local residents, neighborhoods, community organizations and corporations, KMBBC engages locals with active participation in making our hometown a cleaner and more beautiful place to live, work and play. Adopt a Spot offers unique opportunities to increase public awareness while providing an important community service. Three types of participation are available to suit specific goals. Each level of participation is rewarded with community recognition at KMBBC events, free contest entries and custom corporate awards.

Street Beats

Friends and families can adopt a street in their neighborhood and plan monthly cleanups. In just one hour, your team can make a real difference! KMBBC will provide safety vests, trash grabbers, garbage bags and temporary signs. Volunteers are encouraged to place signs out along the adopted area on the day prior to the cleanup to help build awareness for the program. To make the activity more fun, teams can select a theme song or playlist from the KMBBC’s Spotify account to motivate members. Split up the area and meet in the middle for a celebration dance and snap a team picture for our Facebook page.

Cities and countries are responsible for litter cleanup along 96,818 miles of local roads or 84% of the total road miles in the state.

Block Parties

For larger areas, create an even greater impact by connecting the Street Beat teams. Coordinate efforts and clean up an entire neighborhood or public area. KMBBC will provide safety vests, trash grabbers, garbage bags and temporary signs. Volunteers are encouraged to place signs out along the adopted area on the day prior to the cleanup to help build awareness for the program. Each Block Party team will be entered to win a free Block Party with a DJ and a food truck, courtesy of KMBBC and their corporate sponsor.

Adopt a Highway

Adopt a highwayFreestanding signs are placed along one mile stretches of local interstates. Sponsoring businesses and organizations receive exclusive name or logo placement on those signs, which will by seen by literally thousands of motorists 24/7/365. Every month, the Adopt a Highway program crew cleans and maintains the highway in the company’s name. This program is administered by a third party who has a standing contract with the Georgia DOT.

Adopt a Plot

Downtown businesses and property owners are also encouraged to adopt blocks and the planting beds installed along downtown streets and boulevards to maintain the city center’s charming pedestrian-friendly environment. To avoid clutter from traditional signage, garden plaques will be customized and placed in planting beds to recognize the participating sponsors. KMBBC will provide safety vests, trash grabbers and garbage bags for quarterly cleanups.

Adopt a Lot

Custom programs are also designed for corporate partners who want to participate in specific geographic areas that are not suitable or accessible for basic pedestrian pickup programs. These areas may be located in industrial parks or along major highways. KMBBC has developed a list of designated areas that are in need of additional corporate support and a representative is available to create custom cleanup solutions that match sponsor objectives.
